Henry Marko
Florence 1855 – Lavagna (GE) 1921
Henry Markò born in Florence in 1855 is a landscape and marine painter of notable sensitivity, undoubtedly linked to the late nineteenth-century pictorial tradition with romantic hints.
Descendant of the pictorial dynasty headed by the Austrian Andrea Markò, between the 19th and 20th centuries, he painted a series of works characterized by a skilful scenographic structure: rare seascapes of the Ligurian Riviera, luminous and very detailed in their execution, numerous wooded landscapes, sometimes animated by figurines, and frequent views of cities such as Florence, Rome, Genoa, Sestri Levante, which demonstrate his constant work throughout the national territory, thus coming into contact with the most illustrious pictorial personalities of the time.
Much of his activity took place in Tuscany, especially in Florence, where, moreover, Andrea Markò and Carlo Markò the younger carried on the landscape school founded by their father Carlo Markò the elder (1791-1860).
Henry Markò, in the final part of his artistic career, moved permanently to Liguria, to Lavagna, where he favored local landscape design.
Works by him in numerous private collections, in Italy and abroad.
